The Supreme Council of Oil and Gas Regions has requested a share of the country’s oil and gas revenues for the development of the region.

In a statement on Saturday, it demanded a percentage of oil and gas for conducting development projects in the desert towns of Zella, Marada, Awjila, Jalu, Jakharrah, Tazerbu and Kufra after decades of marginalization.

Other demands included removing pollutants, developing infrastructure of the region, and removing imbalances in human development between north and south.

The council said these demands should be written in the constitution, warning that there would be confrontations and disobedience if the demands were not met.

The National Oil Corporation announced Monday an increase of oil production to reach 760.000 bpd.
