The National Oil Corporation has refuted claims made by the General Electricity Company (GECOL) that lack of gas and liquid fuel supplies to power plants was behind Friday outages.

The NOC said in a statement that the fuel and gas supplies were more than enough to operate the power plants and that it has not received any notice of any shortage of supplies from the General Electricity Company.

“All oil fields that feed the power plants with fuel and gas are working normally, except the gas factory associated with Wintershall, which stopped operation in 2013.” The NOC added.

Many cities including Tripoli suffered from high temperatures coupled with long hours of power outage, reaching above six hours.

The GECOL said the outage was caused by a loss of 750 megawatts due to lack of fuel and gas to the power stations, calling on the NOC to do something about it to bring things back to normal.
