One of domes of Alatig Mosque in the oasis town of Awjila, 400 km south of Benghazi, has collapsed.

The Libyan Antiquities Authority has sent a team of archaeologists to the mosque to assess the damage and restart restoration.

Alatig Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in North Africa, which bears a unique roofing style through its conical domes that identify the architecture of the city's mosques. It was built at the beginning of the Islamic conquest of Libya.
