Dignity Operation media mouthpieces have claimed that a boy had been brutally killed by kidnap gangs in Tajoura suburb of Tripoli, causing shock and horror among local residents and internet users.

UAE-funded Alwasat news website, Afrigates news website and 218 TV station quoted a fake Facebook page called “The Bureau of Investigation” as saying that a boy named Moad Farhat had been killed by kidnap gangs after his family failed to pay a ransom of up to LYD 800.000 dinars.

The fake news sparked social media fury and gave the opportunity to Dignity Operation supporters to urge Tripoli residents to go on protests against security forces and demand so-called “Libyan national army” of Khalifa Haftar to take control of the capital.

Sources from the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the Bureau of Investigation Facebook page is fake. Tajoura Mayor, Hussein Ben Atia, also confirmed that the killing news is baseless and the fake Facebook page share news that aims to undermine security and stability of the town.

The page posted other fake news on Friday claiming that a 25-year-old girl was also abducted in Tajoura.
