Sharia Studies and Research Council (SSRC) of the Fatwa House has called on both the General National Congress and Tobruk Parliament to announce to the public the formation of a Libyan national unity that will end the current division in the Libyan political scene.

In a statement Sunday, the SSRC stressed that the signing of the Skhirat political agreement goes at odds with the Sharia laws as it was initiated by illegitimate parties that were not officially appointed by neither the GNC nor the HoR, nor were they entitled to represent the aspirations of the Libyan people.

It urged those parties that signed the agreement to rationalize their actions and avoid being the reason behind more killings and fights in their country.

“We support the Libyan-Libyan dialogue that is resultant from the declaration of principles signed in Tunisia and then embraced by the GNC and HoR presidents in Malta as they met to endorse the start of a real national accord for all Libyans.” The statement reads.

The SSRC called on the international community to stay committed to helping out the Libyan people as they claim their rights as it did back in February 2011, yet without any intervention in the Libyan domestic affairs.
