A Libyan Airlines plane touched down in Tripoli International Airport on Tuesday to mark the first landing in the airport since 2014.

The airplane was carrying the Head of the UN-proposed government's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, and his accompanying delegation coming from Ethiopia.

Al-Sirraj, arrived Sunday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa to represent Libya in the African Union 29th summit.

This first flight arriving in Tripoli International Airport is the first of its kind since the 2014 war that broke out in the airport between forces from Libya Dawn and Dignity Operation affiliate forces from Zintan, leading to the destruction of the airport.

In February this year, the Prime Minister of Tripoli-based Salvation government, one of Libya’s three competing governments, inaugurated the new Tripoli International Airport, despite unfinished reconstruction at passenger terminal after a year of reconstruction works. The foundation stone for reconstruction was laid in March 2016.
