The convoy of Ukrainian ambassador to Libya came under armed robbery in Al-Maya town in western Libya today, a source from Forsan Janzour (Janzour Knights) brigade told Libya Observer.
Ambassador Mykola Nahorny and his assistants were driving from Tripoli to Tunisia when armed gunmen loyal to the so-called Tribes Army, an armed wing of Dignity Operation, stopped them in Al-Maya and robbed their Hyundai car, laptop, telephones and LYD 1500.
Following a tip-off, Forsan Janzour brigade intervened and drove the ambassador and his convoy to safety, the source said.
Al-Maya is a town in Al-Azizya region, 27 km to the west of Tripoli. It's under control of the so-called Tribes Army after Libya Dawn withdrew forces from there in implementation to the recent ceasefire agreement between Misrata's Halboos brigade and Wirshiffana tribes.
Last September, a British embassy convoy came under fire in Al-Maya while it was evacuating staff to Tunisia.
