Qatar relief project assists thousands impacted by Derna disaster

The Qatar Fund for Development has announced the successful completion of a relief project aimed at aiding over 18,000 families.

In collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the initiative extended support to nearly 100,000 individuals across diverse communities.

According to a statement by the Fund, the project targeted approximately 6,499 families affected by the Derna disaster, delivering essential food supplies and household items.


Oil wealth propels Libya into top ten of Africa's wealthiest countries

Libya ranked sixth on the list of the top ten African countries by GDP per capita in 2023, according to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Seychelles topped the list as the most prosperous country in Africa, with a per capita GDP of $21,580. Mauritius and Gabon followed in second and third place, with their per capita GDPs ranging between $9,000 and $11,000.

Libya and Algeria were the only Arab countries included in the top ten, with Libya's per capita GDP at $6,580. Cape Verde ranked at the bottom of the list.



Malta opens new visa application center in Libya's Misrata city

The Embassy of Malta in Libya inaugurated on Monday a new visa application centre in Misrata, in partnership with VFS Global, the Embassy said in a statement.

The statement indicated that the Maltese Ambassador, Charles Saliba, delivered opening remarks highlighting the role played by the Embassy to facilitate commercial and social exchanges between Libya and Malta in order to build ever closer bilateral relations as well as shape a positive narrative regarding the situation in Libya.
