Greek coastguard face prosecution over deadly migrant shipwreck
Greek authorities have launched legal proceedings against 17 coastguard officers over a migrant shipwreck that left hundreds dead, in what is described as the worst such disaster in the country’s history.
The vessel, which had departed from the Libyan city of Tobruk and was bound for Italy, was carrying more than 750 people, according to UN estimates. Only 104 survived, and 82 bodies were recovered.
Lawyers representing the survivors said on Friday that charges have been filed against coastguard personnel, including the then-head of the force and two maritime safety officers on duty that night.
CBL announces new date for electronic payment forum in Tripoli

Libya issues tough new exam rules to curb cheating
The Ministry of Education has announced strict new guidelines for students sitting for national certificate exams, aiming to uphold transparency and discipline in the testing process.
The National Examination Centre issued a statement on Tuesday requiring students to arrive at least 15 minutes before exams begin. Late arrivals—more than 10 minutes after the start—will not be allowed into exam halls. Students must also verify that their names and seat numbers are correctly printed on both question and answer sheets.
Libya court jails health officials over faulty medical equipment deal
A criminal court in Tripoli has sentenced thirteen health officials and contractors to five years in prison after convicting them of involvement in the supply of medical equipment that failed to meet approved standards.
The case centred on employees tasked with verifying and receiving goods for the Ministry of Health, as well as agents from companies contracted to provide medical supplies.
Prosecutors charged a total of fourteen individuals after uncovering documents falsely claiming that hospitals in Ghadames, Jandouba, Nessma, and Al-Shuqayqa had received the equipment.
