UNSMIL convenes youth discussion session on reducing violence in Libya
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held a dialogue meeting with a number of youth from Zintan and Mashashiya at the mission's headquarters in Tripoli on the role of youth and local communities in reducing community violence and supporting social reform efforts.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of several civil society organizations, along with a group of leading women in the field of civil peace, according to a statement published by the mission on its Facebook page.
Tripoli to host Libyan Energy Summit in January 2026
Tripoli will host the fourth edition of the Libya Energy & Economy Summit from January 24 to 26, 2026. The three-day event will bring together government policymakers, oil companies, financial institutions, and technology providers with the aim of boosting investment and stimulating energy sector growth in Libya.
This marks the first major industry gathering following the launching of the 2025 licensing round — the first in 17 years — which includes 22 onshore and offshore exploration blocks. Libya currently has 167 active contractual blocks, with a reported exploration success rate of 33%.
Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr win as Al-Akhdar, Al-Ahly Benghazi draw in opening league matches
The first leg of the first round in the Eastern Region of the Libyan Football League saw victories for Al-Hilal and Al-Nasr, while the match between Al-Akhdar and Al-Ahly Benghazi ended in a goalless draw.
In the city of Shahat, Al-Hilal secured a valuable 1-0 away win against Al-Sadaqa, with the goal scored by Hami Al-Tunji. The win raised Al-Hilal’s tally to six points, benefiting from the three bonus points awarded for topping their group, while Al-Sadaqa remained at one point.
Culture minister discusses support for cultural institutions
Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Mabrouka Tougi, has held a series of meetings aimed at strengthening the country’s cultural sector and enhancing regional and international cooperation.
In a meeting with Mohamed Awad, Director of Misrata Cultural Radio, Minister Tougi discussed strategies to support the station, ensure the continuity of its broadcasts, and improve its cultural content.
In a separate engagement, the Minister met with Nasser Brini, Mayor of Gharyan, to explore opportunities for collaboration to revitalise the city’s cultural landscape.
Higher Education Ministry says UNESCO wants to reopen its office in Tripoli
The UNESCO Regional Director for North Africa, Eric Falt, expressed on Monday the organization's desire to open a UNESCO office in Libya, pointing out the importance of permanent and direct communication in order to overcome all difficulties to complete stalled and future projects, according to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
