Crisis Group urges Security Council to ease sanctions on Libyan Investment Authority

The International Crisis Group has called on the UN Security Council to introduce further changes to the sanctions regime imposed on the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) without waiting for a resolution to Libya’s prolonged political crisis.

In a recent report issued last Thursday, the non-governmental organization argued that instead of waiting for a settlement to the crisis, the Security Council should set realistic conditions to enable a broader easing of sanctions over the long term, while the Libyan Investment Authority should take steps to enhance its credibility.

Four Indonesian women entrepreneurs embarked on efforts to capture business opportunities in Libya by directly participating in the 51st Tripoli International Fair, scheduled to wrap up on April 28. 

These four women entrepreneurs, accompanied by two male entrepreneurs, are leaders of the Indonesian Employers' Association (APINDO) or the Association of Indonesian Exporters (GPEI) of Central Java.

In the city of Shahat, Al-Hilal secured a valuable 1-0 away win against Al-Sadaqa, with the goal scored by Hami Al-Tunji. The win raised Al-Hilal’s tally to six points, benefiting from the three bonus points awarded for topping their group, while Al-Sadaqa remained at one point.

Libyan court jails 11 bank staff for embezzling millions

Tripoli Criminal Court has sentenced 11 employees of a bank branch in Tripoli to varying prison terms after finding them guilty of embezzling 29 million Libyan dinars from a government-linked account.

The employees, all working at a branch of the National Commercial Bank based in Tripoli Central Hospital, were convicted by the Criminal Court of the Tripoli Court of Appeals.

The funds were allegedly taken from an account designated for certified checks issued through the bank agency.

Al-Sayeh: Over 4.000 cancer patients have recovered thanks to Libyan medics

The Head of Libya’s National Anti-Cancer Authority, Haidar Al-Sayah, revealed that over 4,000 patients have fully recovered from cancer thanks to Libyan medical efforts.

In a speech published by the Libyan International Conference on Oncology and Radiotherapy, Al-Sayah said that more than 4,000 scans were conducted in the country over the past year.

The epic of the upcoming political process

UN envoy Hannah Tetteh has announced during her first briefing to the UN Security Council that the legal committee tasked by the United Nations with developing legal proposals and options to resolve the political crisis will complete its work before the end of this month. The mission will evaluate these options as the basis for the political process.

Tetteh did not reveal any details about this political process, its stages, or its stakeholders. This is likely to be presented first to the permanent members of the Security Council, and await their comments and demands to ensure their support when it begins implementation.
