Libya declares state of emergency in southern region after heavy rains

Deputy Prime Minister/ Acting Minister of Health Ramadan Abu Janah has instructed the Emergency and Ambulance Services to declare a state of emergency in the southern region following severe rainfall and flooding.

Critical patients are being transferred to Tripoli for treatment, and authorities have been ordered to provide all necessary support to affected citizens.

NOC chairman holds meetings with US officials

The National Oil Corporation's (NOC) Chairman Farhat Bengdara held a series of meetings in Washington with a number of US administration officials to discuss ways to support the NOC's independence. 

According to a statement published by the NOC's Facebook page, the meetings included a meeting at the White House with Amos Hochstein, Special Advisor to the US President.

Libya sacks national football team's coach Micho

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) sacked Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević (Micho): the coach of the Libyan national team on Thursday evening, following the Mediterranean Knights' draw with Rwanda in Tripoli, and the loss of its last match against Benin in the first two rounds of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco next year.

The Libyan national team's stumbling start in the AFCON qualifiers hastened the sacking of Micho, despite the fact that the team has two important matches next October against Nigeria: the first leg in Nigeria and the second leg in Libya.

Libya's telecom authority reviews progress on 5G roadmap

The Chairman of Libya’s General Authority for Communications and Informatics has reviewed the progress of a committee tasked with preparing a roadmap for the implementation of 5G and future technologies.

During a meeting at the Authority’s HQ, the committee provided an update on its work, including the evaluation of the draft 5G roadmap. The presentation covered technical specifications and recommended scenarios for launching 5G services.

The discussion also touched upon preparations for post-5G advancements, with a focus on telecom tower sharing and cybersecurity regulations.

The Ministry of Education of the Government of National Unity announced on Thursday its readiness to receive more than 2 million and 300 thousand male and female students for the new school year 2024-2025 immediately after the end of the Holy Birthday of the Prophet and Martyr's Day holiday.

GNU signs agreement with German Ottobock to enhance prosthetics services

The Support and Development of Therapeutic Services Authority has signed a key agreement with German prosthetics company Ottobock to establish an advanced workshop at Abu Salim Accident Hospital and the National Prosthetics Center. The agreement was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, according to the government platform “Hakomitna.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Ottobock will provide technicians to manage the workshop and train local staff, aiming to enhance Libya’s capabilities in prosthetics manufacturing and services.
