Dams Department raises state of alert due to rain

Dams Department of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Government of National Unity has raised the state of alert due to expected heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.

Director of the department, Salem Al-Sharif, said that the state of alert and preparations has been raised to encounter any challenges of medium to heavy rain in the northwest of the country, based on the weather warning issued by the National Center for Meteorology.

Local production covers just 10% of market needs, official says

Marai Al-Darsi, Director of Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy, has disclosed that local production accounts for only 10% of the country’s essential goods, leaving Libya heavily dependent on imports to cover 90% of its market needs.

Speaking to Libya Al-Ahrar, Al-Darsi attributed the statistics to official data from the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), highlighting the potential of the private sector to play a larger role in meeting demand. However, he raised concerns over monopolistic practices and speculation that could disrupt price stability and reduce product quality.

CAF slaps Libya fans with two-match ban, $50.000 fine

The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided on Sunday to punish the Libyan Football Federation by banning fans from attending two matches of the Libyan national team, with a fine of 50.000 dollars.

CAF said on its website that the penalty was due to the incidents that occurred during the match between the Libyan national team and Benin, which was held in Tripoli on November 18.

‎Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah honored on Saturday the medical, paramedical and administrative personnel at the Eye Hospital in Tripoli, in appreciation of the exceptional efforts they made during 2024.

Dbeibah hailed in a speech during a ceremony celebrating Tripoli Eye Hospital as one of the most prominent medical institutions in Libya what he described as the achievements made by the hospital, which included examining 200,000 patients and performing 12,000 surgeries in 2024.
