Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the United Nations to take a firm stand against the violations committed by Haftar and his militias in Libya, which "undermine the Geneva Convention and the international human rights system," as he put it.

"The attacks launched by the coup plotters in Libya last year to overthrow the legitimate Government of National Accord (GNA) have brought nothing but pain and destruction to the country, Erdogan said in his speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry accused on Tuesday the European Union (EU) of siding with the coup in Libya after it included a Turkish maritime company in the new sanctions list for allegedly violating the arms embargo on Libya.

In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called on the EU to abandon its biased attitude and cooperate with Turkey if the block wants security and stability in the region.

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, warned that risks of renewed confrontation in Libya are intensifying, noting his disturbance of the massive concentration of mercenaries and weapons that violate the Security Council resolutions, as he put it.

In his centerpiece address to the 75th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Guterres appealed for cooperation to reach an effective ceasefire agreement in Libya.

The Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar held a meeting on Tuesday with Libya’s Head of High Council of State Khalid Al-Mishri, saying Turkey will continue to stand by the Government of National Accord.

A statement by the defense ministry said Tuesday that Akar and Al-Mashri had exchanged views regarding the latest developments in Libya as Akar underlined in the meeting the brotherly ties between the two countries that span 500 years.

The organizers of "Saving Libya from Corruption and the Corrupt" Movement said activist Rabie Al-Arabi was kidnapped after taking part in Monday protests in Benghazi.

Libya Al-Ahrar TV Channel reported sources from Benghazi as saying that Al-Arabi had been out of reach since he took to the streets in the city taking part in the protests that were attacked by pro-Haftar groups.

Libya's NOC lifts force majeure on Zueitina oil port

The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced the lifting of force majeure on Zueitina oil port as of September 22, saying that the operator of the Zueitina Oil Company has been instructed to initiate production arrangements.

"During the past two days, we conducted a security assessment of Zueitina port and Zueitina Oil Company's fields. The assessment was positive and it concluded that there is a significant improvement in the security situation that allows the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to resume production and exports to global markets." NOC said.

UN agencies in Libya to expand support for refugees outside Tripoli

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) along with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday they would expand their support for people in areas outside of Tripoli, including Zawiya, Misrata, Benghazi, and Zuwara, as well as continuing in Tripoli.

The UN agencies said in a joint statement that the second phase will target an additional 6,000 refugees and asylum seekers, with another 10,000 people to be included in the program by the end of this year.

EU lifts sanctions on Abu-Sahmain and Aqila Saleh

The European Union has lifted sanctions against the former General National Congress (GNC) President, Nuri Abu-Sahmain, currently heading the "Ya Bilady" party and head of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh.

This came at a press conference, by the EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, on Monday, following the meeting of the EU foreign ministers, in which they imposed new sanctions on two Libya nationals and 3 companies.
