Williams: Libya is on the way to peace and stability

The UN Acting Envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams expressed on Thursday her optimism about the progress made in the Tunisian-based Libyan dialogue, saying that the country "is now on its way to achieving stability, peace and preserving its unity."

In her online briefing before the UN Security Council on the Libyan developments, Williams said that she was pleased to report that tangible progress has been made from the confidence-building measures package that was formulated in Geneva.

Akar reaffirms support to bring peace, stability to Libya

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar has affirmed his country's firm stance towards the Government of National Accord (GNA) and to continue their support for bringing stability, peace, and prosperity to Libya and its people.

This came during his speech in a virtual international conference on Libya organized by the Turkish think tank for Political, Economic and Social Research "SETA", on Thursday.

The advisor to the Presidential Council's head for the US Relations, Mohammad Al-Darrat, has doubted that any changes will occur in the Libyan file even after the President-elect Joe Biden's administration takes office in January.

But Al-Darrat anticipates that the new White House administration might limit the margin of maneuver for some of the US allies who are interfering negatively in Libya.

"Libya will not be a priority for President Biden," Al-Darrat says.

Demands to suspend membership of some LPDF delegates on allegations of corruption

Members taking part in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) have called on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to dismiss some delegates from the talks upon accusations of corruption and using political money to buy loyalty in Tunisia-based Libyan dialogue.

This came in a statement issued by some delegates of the LPDF, in which they demanded the UNSMIL to investigate into claims of corruption involving attempts to gain influence over some parties in the LPDF by buying their support.

PC allocates sum of money to prepare for elections, PC member Zayed confirms

The Presidential Council Member, Mohammed Amari Zayed, said that the Presidential Council (PC) has allocated a sum of money from the emergency budget in order to prepare for the elections.

Zayed added in a press statement that a decision will be issued by the PC in particular soon, stressing their keenness to provide the needs and requirements of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).

US Congress adopts Libyan Stabilization Act

The US Congress has adopted the Libya Stabilization Act, which includes several penalties against those who committed financial or war crimes, smuggling, or contributed to facilitating regional interventions or money laundering.

The act orders the US President to submit a list of the names of the violators of international human rights law in Libya from all parties, within 180 days from the date of its issuance.
