Ghat Festival kicks off despite COVID-19

The Ghat Tourism Festival kicked off its 26th edition on Tuesday despite the coronavirus pandemic under the slogan (Creativity and Innovation is Born from the Suffering Womb).

"Festival organizers were determined to make sure the show will go on this year, and they made this edition a success," Salem Al-Tohamy, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the International Ghat Festival, told The Libya Observer.

CCMCE sets voters registration deadline for four municipalities

Potential voters for municipal elections in Hay, al-Andalus, Swani Ben Adam, Zliten, and Qasser Akkyar municipalities have until noon on Friday, Jan.1 to register to vote in the upcoming local government elections, the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections (CCMCE) said on Facebook.

The committee said it would open candidacy for those wishing to become members of the Municipal Council for Souq al-Jumaa from Sunday, Jan. 1, 2021, to Thursday, 21 of the same month, confirming that the period for candidacy cannot be extended.

Heads of missions in Libya reiterate need for strong leadership ahead of elections

The Ambassadors of Germany, Italy, the United States, and the Charge d’Affaires of France and the United Kingdom, joined by UNSMIL, stressed to Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj the need for a strong and engaged Libyan leadership ahead of elections in December 2021.

This came during a joint phone call with al-Sarraj on Wednesday, according to the US Embassy.
