Embassy of Pakistan in Libya organizes clean-up campaign in Tripoli

The Ambassador of Pakistan in Libya Rashad Javeed has become the first foreign diplomat to take part in a clean-up campaign in Tripoli. Ambassador Javeed, accompanied by the embassy staff, joined students of the Pakistan Embassy School and College to clean Shat Park in Tripoli under the theme “Keep your environment clean”, as part of the embassy’s celebration of Libya’s Independence Day. “This is our social responsibility to keep things clean. This is our country and we have to keep it neat and clean,” Ambassador Javeed told the students.

US State Department says only Libyans can set new date for elections

The spokesman for the United States (US) State Department, Ned Price, said it’s up to the Libyan people not up to the US or its allies to determine timing, and other fundamental questions of the conduct of free, fair, and inclusive elections, while Washington, along with its allies, will be in a support role.

UNSMIL stresses need for large-scale deliberations ahead of holding elections

The UN Support Mission in Libya's (UNSMIL) Coordinator and Officer-in-Charge, Raisedon Zenenga, met Thursday in Tripoli with Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, to discuss the latest deliberations in the HoR on finding a way forward on holding elections.

UNSMIL said on Twitter that Zenenga reaffirmed that holding elections is the main priority to meet the expectation of the 2.8 million Libyan people who had registered to vote.

Libya reports first Omicron cases

The National Center for Disease Control has confirmed the country's first two cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

In a statement Wednesday, the NCDC called on citizens to get vaccinated, avoid gatherings, and wear masks to counter the rapid spread of the virus.

For his part, Haider Al-Sayeh, Director of NCDC, said that the confirmed cases had no recent travel history, meaning that there is a community flow of the epidemic. Both cases were detected in Tripoli and are under follow-up, he added.
