Libya hails Algeria's efforts in support of political settlement

The Libyan Presidential Council hailed Thursday the efforts exerted by Algeria to help Libya achieve a settlement that leads to a nationwide stability.

The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, met with Algeria's ambassador to Tripoli, Sulaiman Shanin, as Al-Lafi applauded Algeria's support for the political solutions in Libya over the last years without intervening in the country’s sovereignty.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry said it had handed over a piece of antiquity returned from New York, United States, thanking US authorities for its special cooperation with Libya’s embassy in Washington DC to return the marble bust to Libya.

The artifact was smuggled to the US and their attempts to sell it in an auction in New York before being confiscated by US authorities.

Libyan army hunts down members of Kaniyat militia

The Libyan army has hunted down members of the pro-Haftar Kaniyat militia accused of committing human rights abuses in the western town of Tarhuna.

The operation was carried out by the army's 444 Brigade, which made the announcement on Wednesday.

About the operation, the brigade said they arrested a suspect who has been a fugitive of the law for allegedly participating in the mass murders in Tarhuna.

IRINI: Training plan for Libyan Coast Guard awaiting green light from EU

A new plan to start training the Libyan Coast Guard and navy is ready and waiting for EU approval, the Operation Commander for the EU military operation in the Mediterranean (IRINI), Admiral Stefano Turchetto, said on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Italian Nova Agency, the IRINI commander disclosed that they did not reach an agreement yet with the Libyan government in this regard due to the tense political conditions that prevailed at the start of the operation.
