UN, France reiterate need to support dialogue in Libya

The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said on Friday that she met with French officials, including the French Special Envoy to Libya, Paul Soler during her visit to Paris Thursday.

"We.. agreed on the absolute necessity of maintaining calm on the ground, and supporting dialogue between stakeholders with differing perspectives," the UN Rep wrote on Twitter.

Libya urgently needs unified institutions, good governance, strong political will, and long-awaited reforms, says the World Bank's regional director for the Maghreb and Malta, Jesco Henschel.

A report issued by the Libyan Economic Observatory, affiliated with the WB Tuesday, recommended that the country needs urgent investments in infrastructure and social assistance for vulnerable groups, including more effective and regular coronavirus vaccination campaigns.

Haftar requests indictments against him to be suspended

Khalifa Haftar -who is being sued in US courts for allegedly committing war crimes in Libya- has requested a US Federal Court to suspend a case filed against him or issue a preventive ruling, Emadeddin Zahri Muntasser, the Democracy and Human Rights Foundation head, revealed on Wednesday.

"The court has set April 29 to consider his request in detail. The court may reject the request and cancel the hearing if it finds the writ lacks legal or evidentiary grounds," Muntasser wrote on Facebook.
