Three children were kidnapped in the western town of Surman on Wednesday. Gunmen kidnapped the two brothers and their sister in broad daylight in the middle of their way to school.

The gunmen stopped their car driver in the city center and shot him in the leg before taking the three children away.

It's not known if the abduction was for ransom as no contact has been made with their father Riyad Al-Shirshari, a well-known businessman and brother of former GNC member Adel Al-Shirshari.

The Council of Elders of Libya condemned the abduction and called for the release of the children immediately.  The identity of the kidnappers is still unknown.

Surman is a town near the Mediterranean coast, 60km to the west of Tripoli.
