Acacus Oil Firm, which is operating Al-Sharara oilfield in southwestern Libya, confirmed that oil production at Al-Sharara oilfield is being pursued increasingly since Wednesday morning after the reopening of the pipelines that connect the oilfield to Al-Zawiya refinery.

Reuters reported one official at the oilfield as saying, “we started operating in the wills, we will gradually start pumping oil to Al-Zawiya refinery; besides we expect everything will be resumed normally this evening or Thursday morning once we know all things are set because the field has been shut for two years.”

“Oil started to be pumped into the tanks of Al-Zawiya refinery at 12:00pm on Wednesday after resuming work at Al-Sharara oilfield.” Indicated the Head of the Al-Zawiya Oil Refinery Workers Syndicate, Hassan Al-Gelfath.

Al-Gelfath said the oil tanks can take in 300 tons of oil and what the refinery needs to start operating with is 120 thousand oil barrels after being refined, pointing out that the working personnel are doubling up their efforts to get their jobs done exquisitely.

“Several workers at the refinery were afraid that the 700 kilometer long pipeline that connects Al-Sharara oilfield with the refinery in Al-Zawiya would be damaged after two years of closure, however, they felt relieved after they saw the oil flowing through the pipeline.” He remarked.

On Tuesday, the National Oil Corporation announced the reopening of the oil pipelines that extend from Al-Sharara and Al-Feel oilfields, adding that it is targeting an addition of 270.000 oil barrels per day to the Libyan oil output over the three upcoming months.
