Italy’s exports to Libya saw a significant rise in 2024, climbing to €2.27 billion — a 34.2% increase compared to the previous year, according to the Italian Embassy.
The surge was largely driven by the oil and gas sector, which recorded a 40.9% growth, underlining the strategic importance of energy cooperation between the two Mediterranean nations.
Other key sectors also saw notable gains. Italian machinery exports to Libya grew by 19.3%, agri-food products by 19%, furniture by 43.4%, chemicals and pharmaceuticals by 32.2%, and medical equipment by 44.7%.
The embassy, posting on social media platform X, said it remains committed to supporting Italian firms seeking opportunities in Libya. It highlighted ongoing collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency’s office in Tripoli.
Italy remains Libya’s top trading partner, with total exports reaching €10.17 billion in the first ten months of 2023 — a 75% increase compared to the same period in 2021. Italy’s market share now stands at 23.5%.
