Libya has called for significant reforms to the global financial system and economic governance mechanisms, emphasizing the need for more effective solutions to the global debt crisis and long-term financing for sustainable development.
The remarks were made by Intisar Al-Tamzini, Libya's representative at the United Nations, during the General Assembly's Second Committee discussion.
Al-Tamzini also urged international cooperation in recovering Libyan funds that were smuggled abroad, with the goal of reinvesting them into vital service sectors.
Libya further highlighted its recent efforts to tackle illegal migration, referencing the "Mediterranean Migration Forum" held in Tripoli in July 2024, which saw the participation of 28 African and European countries.
The statement underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of migration through genuine development in origin countries with the assistance of destination nations, alongside combating organizations involved in human trafficking.
On the issue of Palestine, Libya strongly condemned the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and the principle of no impunity.
The Libyan delegation also condemned Israeli aggression in Lebanon, calling for urgent international intervention to end the violence and prevent a regional war that could negatively impact development in the region and beyond.
