Libya has emerged as Italy's largest crude oil supplier in the first seven months of 2024, according to data from the Italian news agency Nova.
From January to July, Italy imported 7.39 million tons of Libyan crude, representing 22.3% of its total oil imports.
This marks a significant 28.6% increase over the same period last year, highlighting Libya's role as a critical energy partner for Italy despite ongoing political instability within the North African nation.
Nigeria followed Libya, supplying 11.94 million tons, or 35.9% of Italy's total crude oil needs, reflecting a 31.3% increase from the previous year.
Other key suppliers included Ghana and Cameroon, which contributed 104.3% and 42.3% of their respective national outputs to the Italian market.
