Mellitah Gas Complex

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced a complete shutdown at the Mellitah Gas Complex on Friday evening due to a sudden technical fault in the facility’s power generation units.

The malfunction caused a total blackout across the complex, halting operations at the gas processing plant and suspending output at the key Bahr Essalam offshore gas field.

The NOC said its technical teams quickly launched emergency protocols, activating backup power stations and beginning the process of restarting gas processing facilities to restore production as swiftly as possible.

However, the corporation pointed to chronic delays in routine maintenance and spare part deliveries—attributed to budgetary constraints—as contributing factors to the outage.

The NOC warned of mounting financial challenges facing Libya's oil and gas sector, citing limited resources as a threat to the stability and efficiency of energy operations, critical to the country’s economy.
