The Head of the Audit Bureau Khalid Shakshak called in a letter on Monday to the Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah for putting in place measures to handle the excess of employees within the public sector.

Shakshak urged for stopping the expansion of administrative bodies and giving them financial and managerial independency.

He also called for the preparation of a central system that organizes state employee database based on a standard administrative management and on the actual needs of the state in all sectors and regions.

Shakshak called for strengthening the role of the private sector by providing it with guarantees and developing plans to finance small and medium enterprises, which in turn will contribute to reforming the economy in general, providing job opportunities for youth and reducing unemployment. He also called for developing strategic plans aimed at matching graduates with the needs of the labor market.

In a previous report, the Audit Bureau said that the number of employees in the state’s administrative units amounted to about 2.5 million employees, a percentage of more than 37 percent of the country’s total population.
