Division in politics seems to once again have an impact on education as different dates for the start of the new school year have been announced in areas under the Government of National Unity (GNU) and those loyal to Fathi Bashagha's government that is designated by the House of Representatives (HoR).

The Ministry of Education of the GNU confirmed that the new school year for all levels of primary and secondary education will start on October 16. It said in a statement Saturday that the second phase of pre-school education programs will start from September 21, in preparation for the 2022-2023 academic year.

As for the regions that are loyal to the Bashagha government, they announced that the new school year will start on Sunday, September 18.

A number of education observers in these areas - most of whom are in the eastern region of the country - confirmed that they had agreed with the Minister of Education in Bashagha's government to launch the new academic year 2022-2023, on Sunday, stressing the need to open schools and for the attendance of teachers and administrators.

They also warned those who violate the instructions of legal action as per the orders of Fathi Bashagha government's Minister of Education.
