Leishmaniasis disease has affected more than 100 people, Mitiga Hospital reported on Saturday.

The hospital said it received the cases on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Leishmaniasis causes skin sores and ulcers, which are generally easily treatable, but if neglected, the disease eats away at the patient’s flesh and can be fatal.

The disease is transmitted by the bite of a sand fly, and generally prevented in susceptible areas by the use of insecticidal bed nets while sleeping.
