The mayor of Abu Salim Municipality, Abdul-Rahman Al-Hamdi, has attributed the spread of mosquitoes in the district to negligence of the sewage system development project, and warned of what could become an environmental disaster.

Al-Hamdi said in a press statement that the residents of the municipality were exposed to insect pests that have become widespread throughout the district, which in turn has caused infection and transmission of diseases.

“The spread of mosquitoes in the municipality is due to negligence of the sewage and drainage systems in the Wadi Imjeneen valley”. The statement reads. 

The National Center for Disease Control has have sent a team of researchers to study and examine the causes of the spread of mosquitoes in certain areas of Tripoli.

Earlier, health authorities in Abu Salim district issue warning for unusual mosquito bites after 18 cases of swelling, redness and soreness were detected.
