Patient at Benghazi Medical Center found with maggots in his mouth
The parallel Ministry of Health in east Libya has set up an inquiry into a disgusting video, which showed maggots coming out of a patient’s mouth at Benghazi Medical Center (BMC).
The patient was lying in bed in the intensive care unit when maggots emerged from his mouth. The video, which sparked fury on social media, also showed a nurse providing him with oral hygiene, saying “this is not the first time, the maggots are getting bigger.”
The ministry explained in a statement Monday that the patient was referred to the BMC from Sirte Hospital four days ago suffering from internal bleeding, and he had an emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.
“The inquiry will show whether the patient has entered the center with Myiasis”, the ministry stressed.
It also pointed out that such cases have not been registered at Benghazi Medical Center for many years and that the results of the inquiry will be announced soon.
