The Director of the Emergency and Ambulance Service in Kufra city, southeast Libya,, Ibrahim Balhassan, announced the death of 11 Sudanese refugees stranded in the desert, while local citizens found 15 others alive.
In a press statement on Thursday, Balhassan said that the refugees, including children and women, died of thirst. He thanked the citizens who contributed to rescuing the others and informing the authorities of their location so they could provide assistance.
On May 13, the Martyr Attiya Al-Kassah Hospital in Kufra received 36 Sudanese refugees including children and women who had been lost in the deep desert south of the city for five days without adequate water or food.
