The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the UN envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, to get Libya out of the current political impasse, by agreeing on a constitutional and legal basis on which national elections will be held.

This came during his phone call with Bathily, during which he congratulated him on assuming his duties in Tripoli, according to a statement by the Arab League on Wednesday.

Both sides discussed the recent developments of the situation in Libya, confirming continuation of communication and consultation to restore stability to Libya.

Aboul Gheit and Bathily also stressed the importance of the Libyan actors advancing the national interest and following the means of dialogue to reach a settlement of the existing crisis.
