The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced that the first turbine of the Al-Khums emergency power station has been tested and linked to the public grid to its full capacity of 260 megawatts on Saturday.

The company added that this step, which was carried out with the assistance of an Algerian team, is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the population who have put up with power shortage for extreme periods, during the electricity crisis.

Last Friday, the Algerian technical team arrived at Al-Khums emergency power station to conduct operational tests for both of the generating turbines of the station, which holds a production capacity of 500 megawatts.
