Al-Kony - UK Ambassador

Presidential Council member, Moussa Al-Koni, has called for a governance system based on the country’s three historical regions, each with independent legislative councils, to help achieve nationwide stability.

Speaking during a meeting on Sunday with UK Ambassador Martin Longden, Al-Koni also advocated for a governorate-based executive authority. He argued that granting local administrations control over their budgets and development projects would improve public services and ease pressure on the capital, allowing the central government to focus on national sovereignty.

The talks also covered Libya’s broader political situation, including UN-led efforts to resolve the ongoing deadlock and push for a comprehensive political settlement.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Longden reaffirmed Britain’s continued engagement in Libya, stressing the importance of dialogue among political factions to overcome disputes and pave the way for national elections.
