The head of the National High Electoral Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, discussed preparations for municipal council elections with the U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland.
The meeting took place on Tuesday at the Commission's headquarters in Tripoli. According to a statement by the Commission on Facebook, the U.S. envoy affirmed his support for the electoral process in Libya.
Norland commended the HNEC's efforts to create ideal conditions for conducting free and credible elections that reflect the will and aspirations of Libyans for a stable democratic state.
The two sides reviewed the positions of political parties regarding the electoral process in general and the municipal council elections in particular, as well as the impact these positions have on the feasibility and success of the polls.
