The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, has called for a four-pronged solution to the Libyan crisis, starting with ensuring a suitable environment for holding elections, evacuating foreign forces, dismantling militias, and stopping the flow of weapons.

Lamamra's call came at a joint press conference with the Nigerian Foreign Minister, Chairman of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, for the month of December, Geoffrey Onyeama, on the sidelines of the closing of the high-level retreat on peace and security in Africa.

The Algerian minister emphasized that his country's position is very clear and Algeria's commitments are known, as it calls for a Libyan solution to Libya's problems that includes national reconciliation among all Libyans. He believed that this solution should result in democratic elections that would allow the Libyan people to choose their leaders at all levels.
