Minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed Aoun has criticized recent remarks by the National Oil Corporation head on Libya's potential joining of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF).

In a statement to CNBC, the NOC Chairman, Bengadara, said he has no objection to Libya joining the forum.

However, Aoun emphasized that Libya's decision to join any international organizations or forums is a matter of sovereignty and that the NOC is a technical, commercial entity that should not get involved in political affairs.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the Gas Forum incudes an entity from the occupying state, and Libya's laws against normalization with Israel are still in effect.
