The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Agilah Saleh, has revealed that there is a ready initiative that will be put forward if the elections fail to take place on time, saying that “there is an alternative plan that will be presented at that time”.
Saleh confirmed in a statement on Friday that HoR will unilaterally issue a law to elect the president and the new HoR in the next few days, adding that he is a well-known supporter of what he called the Libyan army (i.e. Haftar’s armed groups) and that no one will be excluded from the scene except through the law and the constitution.
He considered that the role of the UN mission in Libya is not clear, and it does not have anything of its own and that it does not have the right to issue instructions and decisions, as he put it.
