The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has urged the US to pressure Libya's Government of National Unity (GNU) to negotiate the maritime delimitation of the two countries during a call with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The Greek PM told Blinken that communication with Libya would promote regional stability and security, insisting on the need for Greece and Libya to resume the bilateral dialogue on the demarcation of maritime areas, which halted in 2010, including their respective exclusive economic zones.

Any move emerging from the recently signed Turkish-Libyan memorandum, such as drilling for hydrocarbons, is illegal, and Greece will respond accordingly, Mitsotakis says, as he called for keeping the communication channels with Turkey open, according to the Greek Kathimerini website.
