The African Union (AU) has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to take definite measures to implement a permanent ceasefire throughout the African continent, particularly in Libya.

In a statement issued at the end of a session of the African Peace and Security Council, the AU expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing fighting in Libya, adding that the violence undermines all efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

The statement added that the fighting compounds the social and economic situation in the country and intensifies the plight of migrants and asylum seekers.
