Power supplies were cut off from Al-Sa'adia area south of Tripoli since last Friday due to a failure in a number of network cables, the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has reported.

The company clarified in a statement Saturday that its engineering team traced the cause of the blackout to Al-Sa'adia area and when moving to the site they found a body of an African national beside the cables with a wire cutter in his hand.

"It was Likely he has fallen from an electric post while attempting to cut the wires," the GECOL explained.

Another cable was damaged by a resident who was digging in his property in the area between two power stations in Souq Al-Jum'aa, which disrupted power supplies to Awlad al-Haj and Arada district, according to GECOL.
