US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says the path to Libya's unity comes through an electoral process that expresses the will of the Libyan people.

Speaking to the Saudi-funded Al-Arabiya channel, the top US diplomat said Washington's priority at this stage is to see Libya advance towards elections that produce a legitimate government.

"Elections are what the Libyan people want," Blinken said, adding that the UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily is making efforts to hold the elections as soon as possible.

The US Secretary of State arrived in Cairo on Sunday for talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on several issues, including the developments in the neighbouring country Libya.
