Brigade 444, affiliated with the Libyan Army Chief of Staff, announced on Monday that it had thwarted the smuggling of 40,000 liters of fuel in the middle of the Libyan desert.
in a post on its Facebook page, it explained that its members pursued fuel smugglers through desert paths, and were able to thwart several attempts to evade them, and a truck loaded with more than 40,000 liters of fuel prepared for smuggling was seized.
Fuel smuggling drains state resources, as Libya imports the largest part of the fuel to meet domestic demand, and it is sold locally with a large subsidy of up to 90% of its original cost.
