Head of the Center for International Humanitarian Law, Khattab Khaled, has called for the distribution of Sudanese refugees to different Libyan cities to relieve the burden on the city of Kufra, which faces challenges due to the concentration of large numbers of refugees in the city.
Khaled stressed the importance for local authorities to conduct a census and documentation of refugees and to grant them health certificates to facilitate their transfer to northern cities that provide better opportunities for work and health care, noting that Sudanese refugees are not classified as illegal immigrants according to Libyan law.
He also explained that many refugees are seeking to leave Libya, but they face obstacles due to their lack of official documents as a result of entering the country illegally, and called for addressing these problems in a humane and legal manner to support refugees and their host cities.
