A rural hospital in Gharyfa has reported receiving six scorpion sting cases in a single day, including a child in critical condition who narrowly survived.
In a statement, the hospital warned that soaring temperatures have triggered a spike in scorpion and reptile activity, particularly in agricultural areas. It urged residents—especially those living on or near farms—to take extra precautions.
The hospital advised the public to check footwear and clothing before use, avoid sleeping directly on the ground, and seal any cracks in walls or floors. It also stressed the importance of supervising children while playing outdoors and ensuring adequate lighting around homes and farms at night.
The warning comes amid a broader concern about seasonal hazards in Libya’s southern and rural regions, where emergency medical services are often limited.
