The customs services of Misrata have found a large haul of handguns stashed in a 20-foot-long container at the city's seaport, the Libyan Customs Authority has confirmed.
The Misrata customs discovered the 12,000 pieces of handguns after a close inspection of a container carrying house materials for camouflage.
According to the Customs Service of Misrata Seaport, the container arrived on board the ship (Biltaky) via the shipping line CMACGM."
The operation is part of a broader campaign the authorities launched this year to combat drug trafficking and other prohibited items, a readout by the Libyan Customs Authority said.
