The Head of Misrata Seaport Customs Department, Colonel Khaled Al-Dhala, survived an assassination attempt while traveling back from Misrata to Tripoli on Tuesday, Misrata Customs has confirmed.

Al-Dhala stopped at a Mosque on the road to perform the Maghrib Prayer when unidentified assailants opened fire on his car before fleeing the scene.

The bullets pierced Al-Dhala's vehicle, but he luckily came out unharmed, the department said in a statement.

The customs department linked the shooting to some operations it previously conducted involving illegal cargo, including intercepting a large shipment of drugs, stressing that they would continue to perform their work despite the challenges.
