locusts

Head of the National Committee for Desert Locust Control, Salah Embarek, has warned that rising numbers of locusts present an extremely alarming and unprecedented threat to food security and livelihood in the southern region.

Embarak said in a statement that the current locusts are African locusts that have settled in the country, indicating that the Locust Control Committee has formed an emergency room in several cities to eliminate the problem.

He expressed his fear that the vegetation in the south would be affected, especially agricultural crops, which could be destroyed by locusts within a short period of time.
