Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) said that more than 10,000 illegal migrants are being held in centres run by the government of the Presidential Council in Tripoli.

The aid mission said Friday that between 5 thousand to 7 thousand migrants are detained in seven official overcrowded and unhealthy centres in Tripoli.

It added that with the decline in the number of rescue vessels and the increase of the migrants trying to make the trip to Europe during the summer, the situation will be worse, calling on Italy to reverse its decision on closing the ports in front of ships carrying illegal migrants.
