The head of the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Authority in eastern Libya, Abdul-Mawla Ghaith, warned Sheikhs and Imams of Mosques of speaking out against the House of Representatives (HoR) or the interim government or its ministers.

Ghaith stressed that this warning is a final one to anyone who is opposed to the House of Representatives and the government, adding that it could lead to being fired from their position.

The Awqaf Authority and the Higher Committee for Fatwas in eastern Libya are controlled by a group of radical clerics known as “Madkhali group” and have been subjected to many criticisms by social networking sites because of some fatwas and decisions issued by them that were described as “tyrannical, pushing forward the ideology of dictatorship and confiscating freedom of opinion and expression.”
